What is the best martial art for someone who never knew how to defend freedom, too?

I know that Judo is not for me (and all shooting). I like the style and the harmonious nature of Aikido, but I do not know if that is the best for me. I'm 5'7 "and I lost over 40 pounds up now and have a long road ahead. I'm finding ways to continue my activities with the things you always wanted to do most of the people who believe in self-defense I say you want a self-defense is not going to play. 3.5 The majority says is all that moves should be in self-defense to put someone down because the longer are in a struggle for the best chance that your opponent has to rally back. A bit confused about choosing a martial art in particular. If anyone has any sites reference to help decide which would be great. I also know that most people who follow any particular art will be swayed by their own opinion. I know this question has been asked a million times, but I was hoping to get my answer. I am 37 years but still not easily hurt by anything.

Try several different styles. Search dojos that teach more than one style, a couple of lessons in each, see what you think. That can cost a little more to go with a style from the start, but think of it as an investment in their welfare and safety. And do not give up judo – not everything is up and shoot. The mat is a great training if overthrown and forced into a catch. And exercise is great if you want to keep losing weight.
